Archaeological Geophysicist (Trainee)
1w1 week agoMagnitude Surveys
Bradford, GB · Full-time · £26,000 – £26,000
About this role
The primary purpose of the Archaeological Geophysicist (Trainee) is to undertake geophysical field surveys while undergoing our internal training programme. This requires countrywide driving and staying away across the week. Execute surveys, liaise with landowners, maintain equipment, complete paperwork, and ensure high-quality collected data.
Geophysical surveys mainly comprise cart-based magnetometer surveys, hand-pulled or quad-towed. Opportunities exist to assist with combined electromagnetic induction or ground penetrating radar surveys based on skills and progression. The role is 75% fieldwork on average, with semi-regular office rotations.
MS is a diverse company of collaborative individuals focused on bespoke geophysics for heritage and non-heritage projects. Grown organically from 3 to over 50 employees in 8 years, we partner with major archaeological contractors on UK-wide projects. We are a CIfA Registered Organisation and FAME member.
Office tasks emphasize training in theoretical and practical magnetometer survey, equipment maintenance, basic data interpretation, and report writing. Training completes in six months, progressing to Archaeological Geophysicist (Assistant). Field and office rotations support ongoing development.
