About this role
Join an innovative and collaborative geotechnical engineering team of over 90 geotechnical engineers and geologists. The team serves fuels, mining, power, and public sectors with services for foundations, dams, embankments, landslides, soil-structure interaction, earth-retaining structures, excavations, and underground structures. Additional expertise includes geophysics, geohazard assessments, and groundwater seepage.
Primary role involves assisting with execution and management of geotechnical engineering projects related to renewable energy. Barr has engineered wind energy projects since 1992, supporting nearly 45 percent of U.S. wind power across over 61 GW from Hawaii to Massachusetts. Expect frequent out-of-town assignments.
Work in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative and collaborative project team interactions. Daily tasks include drilling observation, instrumentation monitoring, field investigations, contractor coordination, surveying, and geotechnical construction observation. Prepare drilling logs, geological maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.
Grow expertise in geotechnical services like ground improvement, in-situ testing, soil dynamics, and geosynthetics. Gain hands-on experience classifying soil and rock samples, collecting samples for lab analysis, and field electrical resistivity testing. Flexible schedule supports meeting deadlines and client needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in geology or related discipline
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with project team members in a high-energy work environment that encourages self-initiative
- Flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule to meet deadlines and client needs
- Willingness and ability to regularly travel
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30 pounds or more

Responsibilities
