
About this role
NV5 provides engineering and consulting services to public and private sectors through five business verticals: Construction Quality Assurance, Infrastructure, Utility Services, Program Management, and Environmental. The Ventura office delivers conventional geotechnical services, construction materials testing, and advanced geotechnical engineering for hillside design, retaining structures, bridges, seismic analyses, and forensic work. NV5 seeks a highly motivated, self-driven Geologist to join the team.
As Geologist, expect 80%-90% field time and 10%-20% office time focused on returning samples and reporting. Perform exploration and testing on grading and construction projects for commercial and public sector clients. This hybrid role supports geotechnical studies and materials testing initiatives.

Requirements
- BS Geology / Geological Sciences (MS preferred)
- 1-2 years professional experience in the field
- CA Geologist-In-Training Certificate
- Experience with public works and transportation projects (ideal)
- Nuclear Gauge certification preferred
- ACI Concrete Technician preferred
Responsibilities
- Perform geotechnical exploration including field mapping, drilling, and trenching for various geotechnical studies
- Perform field observation and testing on grading and construction projects, including field density testing and concrete sampling and testing
- Assist in geotechnical report preparation including exploration logs, map and cross section preparation, geotechnical analyses, and report writing
- Perform miscellaneous field, office and laboratory duties in support of geotechnical studies and construction materials testing projects
- Conduct soil sampling and borehole logging during field explorations
- Observe foundation excavations, retaining walls, and earthwork operations
- Return field samples to office for laboratory analysis and reporting
