About this role
This Geologist role focuses on HSE compliance, FEL3 studies, and reconciliation data management in mining operations. You will collect survey, production, and process plant data to support resource and reserve modeling. Ensure alignment with standards like SK-1300 and Vale PNR for accurate geological assessments.
Day-to-day tasks include gathering mine face surveys, bluezone data, belt-cut sampling, and calcine sampling. Reconcile actual mined material against block model estimations for ROM tonnage, grades, ore thickness, and recovery. Analyze discrepancies in factors F1 through F5, including gain/loss at top/bottom and unmined reserves.
Collaborate closely with Mine Planning, Survey, and Process Plant teams to communicate discrepancies and ensure orebodies are well-understood. Participate in reconciliation meetings, hazard identification, and safety initiatives like Safety Talks and Golden Rules. Provide block model sections and drill hole data to support analysis.
Prepare geological sections for reports and document factors like dilution, ore loss, and misclassification. Conduct GPS training for Ore Quality Control and mentor Junior Geologists in ore reconciliation. Join a fun workplace emphasizing talent, hard work, teamwork, and creative collaboration for positive global impact.
Requirements
- Familiarity with block model data from Long-Term Model (LTM)
- Knowledge of reconciliation processes including F1 (resources vs reserves), F2 (reserves vs mined), F3 (mined vs process plant), F4, and F5
- Experience validating field survey measurements of top ore, bottom ore, and sampling results
- Ability to provide block model sections, drill hole data, ore exposure, and bluezone data
- Understanding of SK-1300 standard and Vale PNR Standard for FEL3 studies
- Proficiency in Global Positioning System (GPS) for ore quality control
- Skills in hazard identification, incident reporting, and safety improvement initiatives
Responsibilities
- Ensure implementation and promotion of company HSE programs (LIF, CCV, Safety Talks, HiPo, Golden Rules, RAC)
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols during fieldwork, sampling, and data collection
- Collect survey data such as mine face survey, bluezone survey, density factor, and release ore
- Provide data for FEL3 study based on SK-1300 standard and Vale PNR Standard
- Reconcile actual mined against block model estimation and drill holes data in terms of ROM tonnage, grades, ore thickness, gain/loss, unmined, and recovery
- Analyze discrepancies and contribute to root cause investigations
- Communicate discrepancies between block-model and actual to mine planning and reconciliation team
- Prepare geological sections to support reconciliation reports and document geological factors
Benefits
- Fun workplace environment
- Emphasis on talent and hard work
- Teamwork and collaborative problem-solving
- Creative approaches to challenges
- Opportunity to make a positive impact on the world
